Rapid Water Quality Incident Support (Major Metropolitan Hospital Campus)

Client: Confidential
Sites: Multi‑facility Healthcare campus (incl. tertiary hospital services and associated clinical facilities)

Challenge
A major metropolitan hospital campus required structured and rapid support to manage water quality incidents and “out‑of‑specification” events, where response speed, clarity of responsibilities, and escalation pathways are critical to protect patients and maintain operational continuity.

Project Overview:

Solutions Delivered

  • Incident Response Protocols (IRPs) developed and maintained to provide step‑by‑step guidance for adverse water quality events (e.g., microbial detections, low disinfectant residual, out‑of‑spec temperature, suspected backflow/cross‑connection, consumer complaints, and system integrity breaches), including clearly defined roles/accountabilities and flowchart-based response actions.
  • Facilitated incident response workshop(s) for endorsement and alignment, supporting finalisation of IRPs and ensuring stakeholder clarity on action allocation and response expectations.
  • Urgent incident-driven independent sampling support when requested by the partner, including priority response call-outs for time-critical verification sampling in clinical areas (e.g., urgent supply water sampling requests for specific rooms/equipment).
  • Embedded incident response into broader water governance documentation, including a Facility Water Safety Plan that references incident response, corrective action guidance, and templates to formalise risk notifications and close-out actions.

Outcome/s
Faster, clearer incident response with defined accountabilities and consistent escalation pathways across the hospital campus.
